Measures have recently been introduced to make amendments to the SIS Regulations that govern your Self Managed Superannuation Fund (SMSF), which cover the next group of changes from the Stronger Super recommendations.

There are two amendments relating to SMSF Investment Strategies that will commence in the 2013/2014 financial year:

  1. Trustees of SMSF’s will now have to consider, as part of its Investment Strategy:
“…whether the trustees of the Fund should hold a contract of insurance that provides insurance cover for one or more members of the Fund…”
  1. Trustees must also now “review regularly” their Investment Strategy.

As a result of this change in legislation, it is critically important that reviews are undertaken on a regular basis and appropriate documentation is maintained to evidence that all regulations have been complied with.
